Slowly

I feel like things are going sooooo slowly with Cruise but then I read a quote like this and I am more confident in our path.  In the past week Cruise has suddenly gotten really solid online/lunging, swinging through his back, working off of very subtle aids, and being very easy to position.  Anywhere on the property.  He is also getting very good under saddle in my back field, expanding his riding area, starting some single walk poles, and doing some longer straight line trots.  This weekend he also went for a half hour solo trailer ride, was good, and then came home and worked on line and in hand quietly by all the spooky spots I could find.

On line I just need to add more spirals, circles, and minutes per workout for strength.  Under saddle, I want to keep expanding our riding area, adding more trots to eventually get to changes of direction through the trot, keep refining our baby flexibility exercises like HQ yields, and generally keep things super low key.  Calm and boring is the way.  I’d like to start hauling out to do ground work soon and have a lead that our local fairgrounds might be available for haul-ins.

So, looking at this, we are making forward  progress.  Cruise is still super friendly, he walks over to me to be bridled, has nice body condition, and, I think, things are on a good track.

    1. It's really sloooow but I know it's the best right thing long term.

  2. No need to rush things. That's how things get messed up and no good comes of it. You have plenty of time. Enjoy it.

  3. I can be impatient with some things but it's always better to take it slow and get it right the first time around, then have to go back later and fix the holes in his training that came from skipping stuff and rushing it. You will thank yourself later on.

    1. Good point about the holes in training. I've never thought of it that way.
