So, I had a great 100th post planned showing our progress to date. We had good weather for video, pony going really well warming up and boom, lame horse. Right hind, same as earlier this Summer. Crap. The long short is that it is the right stifle. Jet was great after rest and slow rehab of 8 weeks this Summer but after 2 months of really good work some soreness again. It does make sense because we were finally up to harder work with spirals, some lateral work, and lengthens which are loading the hindquarters more. After talking with my vet about various options, I decided to have the stifle injected and put Jet on IM glucosamine every 2 weeks. This seems like a reasonable plan for a 13 year old horse that has been in steady work for 8 years to have a much longer working life. He is on his last day of stall rest/hand walking and back to light work and turnout tomorrow. We shall see, but the vet was pretty hopeful for a positive outcome.
Just out of curiosity, what kind of maintenance, if any, do you do for your older sport horses?
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. I hope the injections help!
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy! He's back to light work, and so far so good, but we will see what is what as the work load gradually gets harder...
